The Ottawa Withdrawal Management Centre (OWMC) is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides a supervised non-medical withdrawal management service in a respectful and safe residential environment. Clients receive support and encouragement to make changes to their use of various substances, which helps reduce the negative physical and mental health effects related to substance use.
Experienced and qualified counselors work with clients to help them regain control of their lives and of their physical and mental well-being as well as their interpersonal relationships.
The OWMC offers three different withdrawal management programs to suit different needs and lifestyles:
- Residential: A short-term residential program for people who need 24-hour monitoring of their withdrawal symptoms and/or a structured, safe environment to stop using. The length of stay is based on individual needs, but the average is five days.
- Day: The Day Program is for those who want to enhance their early recovery coping skills in a group format. This program lasts two to three week. Individual counselling is also offered.
- Community: Counsellors support those who prefer to undergo withdrawal at home or in another safe, supportive environment. They offer pre-withdrawal planning, acute withdrawal monitoring and support, along with treatment planning and referrals.
