Maison Gilles Chagnon

The goal of Women’s Residential Stabilization Program is to support and stabilize our clients before they go to a residential addiction treatment program.

History of Maison Gilles Chagnon

The house is named after Mr. Gilles Chagnon, a strong advocate of mental health services for Francophones in the Ottawa region, in recognition of his involvement and dedication to the cause. The program at Maison Gilles Chagnon was originally dedicated to helping people with mental health problems to access rehabilitation services in a francophone environment.

Considering the changing needs and complex challenges of the clientele in the region, the program continues to offer residential rehabilitation services, but now on a 24-hour basis and in both official languages. The program assists women who suffer from addiction and mental health problems and who need accompaniment in order to continue their journey towards sobriety.

This is a bilingual harm reduction-based program dedicated to helping women dealing with substance abuse or mental health problems and who are in a vulnerable state in terms of housing. Our goal is to support and stabilize our clients before they go to a residential addiction treatment program.

Who do we serve?

The program offers services to women 16 years and older who are in recovery and show no signs of acute withdrawal symptoms.

Although we do not house women with their children, they can go visit their children and other family members. We even encourage it!

Women seeking services must be homeless or vulnerably housed, meaning their housing status in unstable, violent, or does not support their sobriety.

They must also have the goal of attending long-term residential addiction treatment after their stay with us. As a result, they must also have a valid assessment and referral completed with the Ottawa Addictions Access and Referral Services (OAARS).

In what type of facility is the Women’s Residential Stabilization Program offered?

Our program is offered in a house that has been entirely renovated, complete with new furniture, household appliances, bedding and technological necessities. Our residents therefore enjoy a safe and healthy therapeutic environment.

The house is located within Ottawa at a confidential location in order to preserve the safety of our residents.

Addictions Management

Every aspect of our program has been created using empirical research and best practices related to women-specific services in addictions and concurrent disorders. Our program includes group programming, acupuncture applied to detoxification, meditation, personal programming that is client-centered, as well as life skills programming such as housework, personal scheduling, working as a team, and overall routine development. Our goal, as a pre-treatment stabilization residence, is to support our clients in a way that provides them structure but also allows them to maintain their autonomy.

We have bilingual female counsellors working 24/7 in order to provide our residents with around the clock support. Our counsellors offer crisis intervention, one-on-one counselling, motivational interviewing, and they also connect clients to other services they may require.

The Program Culture

Our program is designed for women who have the goal of abstinence, and who desire a lifestyle that empowers and encourages sober-living. The team believes that all residents have the right to recovery and are asked to respect and support that right within the community of the program. We offer an environment that allows women to heal and regain their self-esteem and independence so that they can continue their journey towards sobriety.

Let us assist you in this journey.
