PRESS RELEASE

Ottawa, March 11th, 2021 – Montfort Renaissance is proud to announce the completion of renovations at the Centre de services Guigues (CSG) thanks to a $150,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). This work allowed to renovate four bathrooms in accordance with health, safety and accessibility standards and to purchase a new van to facilitate transportation of senior clients from their homes to the various activity sites.

“This OTF grant provides valuable financial assistance and directly supports Montfort Renaissance’s efforts to break the isolation of francophone seniors and to facilitate their socialization while providing them with access to safe facilities. These renovations are even more necessary for our senior clientele who is increasingly isolated or facing health and mobility challenges.” Claudia Guidolin, Chair of the Board of Directors of Montfort Renaissance.

Recognizing the grant, MPP for Ottawa-Vanier, Lucille Collard declared “Montfort Renaissance has been a leader in providing care for our elders with dignity and respect. With the support of the OTF grant, the Centre de services Guigues is now even more accessible for Francophone seniors experiencing mobility challenges. Our community is grateful for this space where seniors can socialize safely while accessing critical community services.”

Due to circumstances related to the current COVID-19 pandemic, the grand re-opening following the renovations did not take place as planned. Small virtual and in-person visits – while respecting social distancing – have taken place over the past few months when the Centre de services Guigues was able to reopen its doors to clients. “It’s been my second home for 40 years”, said a client, speaking of the Centre de services Guigues. Regarding the bathroom renovations, she adds, “It’s gorgeous! It’s accessible for everyone. I can take my walker with me. It used to be so small!”

The recent lockdown measures having changed things again, staff members are now eagerly awaiting the return of all clients to the center. Urgent medical transportation in the new van continues to be maintained for clients in accordance with Ottawa Public Health safety measures and recommendations.

Montfort Renaissance is a Francophone community organization that makes a difference in the lives of more than 6,000 clients by offering integrated services in the fields of mental health, addiction, housing along with services for seniors. The Centre de services Guigues offers community support services and socio-recreational activities in French to seniors as well as adults with disabilities.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations. OTF awarded more than $115 million to 644 projects last year to build healthy and vibrant communities in Ontario.
